base private, individual identity. And that’s what
characterizes us from the rest of the world:
private identity; individualism. And that comes out
of print. Out of electricity you get other kinds of
awareness. Every time you shift identity it means
violence. Whether the society breaks up and hops
in the canoes and goes down river, or they just
begin tearing at each other’s throats, it’s the
same. It’s violence. Violence in the kids means
they’re looking for identity, and they’re getting
conflicting answers to the question, “Who am I?”
So they’ve got to settle it, and that’s why they get
violent.
